The Avoca Volunteer Fire Department was first established in the early 1940’s. The department’s objective then as is now, is to provide a service of fire protection to the Citizens and rural members of our Community and district. Throughout the many years of operation, our department has provided exemplary service in a wide array of situations. The Avoca Volunteer firemen have long been known for their community service and willingness to adapt in the face of change. Over the years our firemen have sought to improve the department through training and community efforts. Today the Avoca Volunteers are one of Cass County’s biggest “Little Small town” Fire Departments.
The department currently boasts 20 active volunteer firemen, 4 of which are active Emergency Medical technicians. We are solely funded through the Districts Rural board and monies made by fund raising and or donations. Recently the department was awarded with an Assistant to Firefighters grant which refitted all 20 fire personnel with New Turnout gear. Today we remain equipped and ready to serve the purpose of protecting life and property wherever and whenever needed.
